Colorado Rapids 2014 MLS Draft Preview

Colorado has three picks in the top two rounds of the SuperDraft again, but only one is in the first round this time.

Joe Robbins

Last season, the Rapids entered the MLS SuperDraft with some obvious needs and two picks in the Top 11 to fill them with. They did pretty well for themselves with Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers, the two top rookies of the year in MLS. This year, things are a little different. Colorado have no coach and no clear direction to go here, so they might surprise us with their picks. Unlike last year, they have three picks but only one of them is in the first round.

They'll have their natural No. 11 pick, but neither of their two second-rounders is theirs. The first came from way back when the Rapids traded Macoumba Kandji to the Dynamo for a conditional draft pick, while the second came from the Pablo Mastroeni trade, which really looks kinda silly from the Galaxy's perspective at this point.

Here are some of the pieces we've done on potential Rapids picks:

Eric Miller

Mamadou Doudou Diouf

Schillo Tshuma

Rafael Diaz

Zach Bolden

Jared Watts

Steve Neumann

And if any of you fine folks would like a live-thread for the draft, this thread can serve that purpose. Onward to the 11th overall selection!
