The Colorado Rapids are facing another massive western conference game as the Los Angeles Galaxy will await a Rapids team that had it's nine-match unbeaten run ended in Kansas City. Sweltering heat, brutal humidity, a capacity crowd at Sporting Park, and a determined Sporting KC side proved to be too much for the Rocky Mountain club as the Rapid succumbed to defeat.
Colorado (10-8-9) are currently in 4th place in the Western Conference but will need to improve after being on the wrong end of a 2-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City on the weekend. A large traveling contingent of Centennial 38 supporters were disappointed after Graham Zusi found the scoresheet in the 88th minute. The United States international had a clinical finish to condemn Colorado to their first loss since June 23rd.
Los Angeles (13-9-4) are in 2nd place in the Western Conference and have their eyes on the Supporter's Shield. However, they trail Real Salt Lake by five points. LA Galaxy will have a weakened squad due to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzales, Robbie Keane, and Jaime Penedo are notable absences for the United States, Republic of Ireland, and Panama respectively.
Colorado has done well as of late, but due to the resurgence of the Seattle Sounders, they find themselves needing to continue to win games against Western Conference opponents to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. Only five clubs qualify for the postseason, and the Rapids are just two points from finding themselves outside of the playoff race. The Rapids will only be missing Gabriel Torres as the Panama striker will on international duty.
