Colorado Rapids vs. Sporting Kansas City - Player Ratings

A lethargic and disappointing display sees Colorado Rapids drop their first match in two months, 2-1 to Sporting Kansas City.

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

A hot and humid evening in Kansas City saw Colorado Rapids lose for the first time in two months as they dropped a 2-1 decision to Sporting Kansas City. The Rapids inexplicably were not ready to play this match and it translated into a lethargic and underwhelming display. The result leaves the Rapids sitting fourth in the Western Conference with 7 games to go (3 home, 4 away)

Here is how I saw the match:

Clint Irwin 6

Did not have much to do on the night and could do nothing on the two Sporting Kansas City goals. Obviously frustrated his defense let him down on the game winner.

Chris Klute 7

A good game for Klute who was very active up and down the left side of the pitch. Did not get forward as much this match, but that had more to do with the inability of the Rapids midfield to control the ball for any stretch of time.

Shane O’Neill 6

A decent night for O’Neill. Was able to handle the SKC for the bulk of the night, but was not his usual dominate self.

Drew Moor 7

The Captain was good for the bulk of the night and was able to command a defense that was pretty solid all night.

Marvell Wynne 7

Wynne was very energetic both in the back and making runs up the right side of the pitch. Looked good despite the sweltering conditions.

Nathan Sturgis 4

Sturgis had a pretty rough game and struggled all night with controlling the midfield. In a match where the opposition had 60% of possession, much of the blame falls on the Rapids midfield and their inability to control the ball.

Hendry Thomas 4

How many yellow cards this year? Thomas needs to stop with unnecessary fouls as they are leading to booking after booking. He is now picked up his 7th caution of the year. If the Rapids are going to make a run, they need his physicality and leadership, but he needs to tone it down.

Deshorn Brown 5

Brown has raised his game in the last couple of games and has looked better and better. Had a good shot on goal in the first half, but like many of the Rapids on this night, looked gassed. Came off in the second half for eventual goal scorer, Edson Buddle.

Dillon Powers 4

Rough game for Powers and completely lost his man on the second goal. If he was in position there is a good chance the game ends in a draw. Looks tired and worn out. May need to sit out a game to get his legs back.

Vicente Sanchez 6

Brings a lot of pace and creativity to the field but did not have any shots on the night. Had trouble keeping possession for the Rapids (not the only individual on the night with this problem though)

Gabriel Torres 5

Nothing exciting from the latest Rapids signing. Appears to be getting more in a rhythm with his new teammates, but so far there is a lot of promise, but nothing tangible to report from him. Will miss the next game while on international duty.

Martin Rivero 7

Dear Oscar, please start Martin next week. I would love to see Sanchez and River on the pitch for more then 23 minutes a game.

Edson Buddle 8

A very good 20 minute shift for the veteran who picked up his second goal in as many games. Since the latest acquisitions he has seemed more focused on the pitch. His goal did take a deflection, but did not hesitate to take the shot.

Atiba Harris 5

Ten minutes of playing time for Harris and did nothing to distinguish himself on the night.
