Colorado Rapids vs. Los Angeles Galaxy - Player Ratings

Colorado Rapids earned a crucial three points on the road against Los Angeles Galaxy. In an increasingly tighter Western Conference, the Rapids continue to solidify their playoff place with six matches to go.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado Rapids made the fourth and final regular season visit to the StubHub Center in Los Angeles and came away with a 1-0 victory to bring their season record to 11-8-9. On the strength of Edson Buddle’s third goal in as many games, solid goalkeeping by Clint Irwin and the playmaking of Vicente Sanchez, the Rapids earned a crucial three points as they make a push for MLS Cup Playoffs.

Here is how I saw the match:

Clint Irwin 8
Another tremendous effort by Irwin whose second minute save kept the Rapids in the game. He tied the Rapids single season record with his tenth clean sheet of the year. Had six total saves.

Chris Klute 7
Klute’s solid passing and physical play were again on display against the Galaxy. Was not intimidated all night and had several solid runs up the field in an effort to spark the offense.

Shane O’Neill 6
O’Neill did well on the night, but his passes and defense was not as crisp as it has been. The Galaxy were pressuring throughout the night, but at the end of the day, he helped deliver another clean sheet for the Rapids.

Drew Moor 7
Had several key clearances on Galaxy offensive drives up the field, his passing was sharp, and in general made life difficult for the Galaxy. He played exactly as you want your Captain to play--as the leader on the field for the Rapids.

Marvell Wynne 7
Since Wynne’s mini benching after a horrendous June, he has stepped up his game. He was extremely active on Saturday and used his speed and physicality to slow Galaxy defenders on a number of occasions.

Dillon Powers 6
A rebound game for Powers. Partnered with Hendry Thomas as a holding midfielder, Powers converted 90% of his passes, but did take a yellow card that could have been avoided.

Hendry Thomas 6.5
A better game from Thomas, but as a holding mid you would want to be able to control possession (Rapids lost the possession battle 52%-48%). Had one shot on the night and did not pick up a yellow card.

Nick LaBrocca 5.5
LaBrocca was decent on the night, connecting on 83% of his passes during the match, but lost his man deep in the box which nearly led to a Galaxy goal. Needs to do better on defense.

Vicente Sanchez 8
His creativity and ball handling skills were on full display in Los Angeles. His skill taking on multiple Galaxy defenders led directly to his assist on the Buddle goal. Played behind Buddle in a 4-2-3-1, and he was quite successful on the night.

Atiba Harris 5.5
An uninteresting performance for Harris as he returned to the starting lineup. Did not do a whole lot to distinguish himself and was subbed off for Martin Rivero.

Edson Buddle 8
Another game, another goal by Buddle. Since the signing of Gabriel Torres and Vicente Sanchez, Buddle has stepped up his game. His goal was an absolute beauty and was the kind of thing that gets Rapids supporters excited for the final six matches of the season.

Deshorn Brown 5
A bit of a shock to not see Brown starting and never seemed to get into the game when he did get on in the second half.

Martin Rivero 7
I would have to think that Rivero starts on Saturday against FC Dallas, but I also thought he would start against the Galaxy. Converted 88% of his passes and had one shot on the night.

Anthony Wallace N/A
Played four minutes of mop up duty, coming on for Sanchez late in the match.
