Best Of The Colorado Rapids: By The Numbers - #28

Who’s the best all-time Colorado Rapids player to wear #28?

Davy Armstrong, #28

This season we'll be taking a look at every player who has worn a Colorado Rapids jersey over the 18 years of the club's existence. Who was the best player to wear a particular jersey number? I'll list them, and you can vote and comment on the best players to don the burgundy...or black and blue...or green...

Today we're looking at every #28 who has appeared in at least one Major League Soccer or CONCACAF Champion's League match for the Rapids.

  • Davy Armstrong -- 2011 - 2012
Armstrong is best known as the Rapids' first homegrown player. After four years on the roster he has only 4 minutes of league action last year plus a few more in the champion's league in 2011. It's a slow start to his career, but he is only 21 years old. Armstrong also wore #28 in 2010 when he did not play, and has the number again this season but has not seen the field.
  • John DiRaimondo -- 2008
DiRaimondo also had #28 in 2007 but did not play for the first team. He started 2008 well, earning playing time in a crowded midfield (11 games, 8 starts and 1 goal), but he was released the following offseason. After brief stops in DC and 2 USL teams in 2009, he retired at age 23. He now works in his native St. Louis.
  • Leo Cullen -- 2005
Cullen played in 18 games (11 starts) for the Rapids in 2005, earning 1 assist. The Rapids were the last stop in his MLS career. Before and after his brief coaching stint at Army (under fellow former Rapids player Russell Payne), Cullen has been a sports agent.
  • Jordan Cila -- 2004
Cila was a huge surprise for Colorado in 2004, going from undrafted and largely unwanted to contributor and then starter for the Rapids. He played in 23 games, starting 17, and scored 4 goals with 2 assists. His 4 goals tied him with John Spencer for 2nd on the team that year. His high point was scoring twice (including the winner) against his hometown Metrostars in a 3-2 win. After the season he was traded to Real Salt Lake, and then New York, and by 2007 he was out of the league. He now works in banking.
  • Alex Blake -- 2003
Blake played 23 minutes over 3 games for the Rapids in 2003. The Jamaican, the Rapids' 3rd round pick in 2003, was seen as having potential, but never got healthy enough to show much.

So who's the best Rapids player to ever wear the number 28? Vote below!

My Pick: No stars here, but Cila had one solid season and therefore gets my vote.
