The Colorado Rapids played to an entertaining 2-2 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday night at Dicks Sporting Goods Park. With four goals in 10 minutes, the Rapids blew two leads but overall had a solid outing that kept them in the playoff conversation. Here is how I saw it:
Clint Irwin 7
Did not have much to do and both Dallas goals were ones that he did not have much of a chance on. His positioning was solid and he is growing into the calming influence of a goalkeeper who plans on being a starter for the long haul.
Chris Klute 8
Another solid outing for the young on-loan defender. Was very comfortable moving forward on attack and is not afraid of getting physical with the flopping FC Dallas team. Had his third assist on the year on the second Harris goal.
Shane O'Neill 7
Looked good on defense again and continues to grow in the role. He still can lose his man on occasion, but did his best to neutralize a potent Dallas attack.
Drew Moor 6
Should have done better on the second Dallas goal where he misplayed a header. As the captain of the team, he needs to settle the troops down after taking the lead.
Marvell Wynne 8
Demonstrated his value on the flanks by chasing down numerous Dallas defenders and provided the throw in that led directly to the first goal of the night. The defense is better with him on the pitch.
Nathan Sturgis 7
Paired with Thomas and Powers in the middle against Dallas, his play continues to impress. Was a choice over #25 which shows how much his game has grown since joining the Rapids.
Hendry Thomas 8
Was a physical beast in the middle and the guy that was giving Dallas fits all night. He brings a physicality and skill to the Rapids that has paired well with Sturgis.
Dillon Powers 7
The rookie had another good game with several good set pieces. Not as creative in the middle as other midfielders that the Rapids have, but worked well in moving the ball forward.
Deshorn Brown 7
The rookie was aggressive on the flanks and caused problems for the FC Dallas defense. At times it seemed he was too fast and other Rapids players struggled to keep up with him.
Atiba Harris 9
Harris was spot on against Dallas, netting two goals and in contrast to past matches, did not miss. You begin to wonder if it just has taken him longer to gel with the team. Based on recent performances, he needs to be in the starting XI going forward.
Edson Buddle 7
One of the nice things about having a guy like Buddle is that he sets up the other guys for opportunities on goal. Had a good game holding the ball up to allow the Rapids chances on goal.
German Mera N/A
Late game sub, making his MLS debut. May have been brought in to add size on late set pieces but wasn't able to connect on one in the end.
Danny Mwanga N/A
Late game substitute, had no real chance to get involved.
