The Colorado Rapids are in a mid-season free fall as the Rocky Mountain club have lost three matches in a row. The Rapids most recently fell victim to the Portland Timbers on the weekend by a scoreline of 3-0. Meanwhile, the Montréal Impact lead the Eastern Conference.
Colorado (5-7-5) have struggled in the month of June. Three straight losses have fans concerned in yet another midseason losing streak that has seen the Rapids fall out of the Western Conference playoff race. Drew Moor has officially taken over the captains armband for the club and Colorado are desperately looking for a result on the road before two home games to start July.
Montréal (9-3-2) have impressed in their second season in MLS. The Canadian club has been very consistent under head coach Marco Schallibaum. Captain Davy Arnaud is expected to return after sustaining a concussion on May 1st against Toronto FC. Le Impact are currently on a seven game unbeaten streak.
The Rapids have received a boost as veteran goalkeeper Matt Pickens has been cleared by the medical staff to resume full training. Clint Irwin has stolen many of the headlines, especially during the early season unbeaten run. Head coach Oscar Pareja could very well have a goalkeeper selection headache when Pickens returns to full fitness.
