The Colorado Rapids will look to end a two game losing streak as the Rocky Mountain club travels to Oregon to face the Portland Timbers. The Rapids are in the midst of a three game road trip and desperately need a result against a disciplined Timbers team that have impressed under first year head coach Caleb Porter.
Colorado (5-6-5) have dropped to 7th place in the Western Conference after losing to the Chicago Fire on a midweek fixture at Toyota Park. DeShorn Brown found the net early in the game, but Mike Magee scored a first half penalty and Austin Berry scored the eventual game winner in the 48th minute. Colorado had countless chances, but somehow failed to find an equalizer.
Portland (6-1-9) are doing very well under coach Caleb Porter and are in third place in the Western Conference. The Timbers lead the league in goals but the club's defense has also recently earned accolades. Pa Modou Ka and Andrew Jean-Baptiste are likely defensive starters for Sunday after the club has seen David Horst and Michael Silvestre go down with season ending injuries in recent weeks.
Longtime Colorado Rapids captain Pablo Mastroeni departed the club this past week and made his LA Galaxy debut against Portland on Wednesday in a 0-0 draw in Carson, California. The Rapids lost what many call a Colorado legend this past week, but received an international slot for the former United States international. Also noteworthy, Oscar Pareja will be back on the touchline after serving his 1 game suspension on Wednesday in Chicago.
