Shane O'Neill Scores As USMNT U-20's Take Down Portugal In World Cup Tune-Up

The Baby Yanks won their tune-up for the U-20 World Cup on Friday, taking down Portugal with the help of a goal from Rapids youngster Shane O'Neill.

Shane O'Neill scored his first ever international goal for the United States as he helped the US U-20 team take down Portugal in their final game before the U-20 World Cup begins. Jose Villarreal of the LA Galaxy and Alonso Hernandez of Monterrey also scored for the Yanks in the 3-1 victory.

Shane didn't start the game, but he came into the game at halftime and wasted no time in giving the United States the lead, putting it in on a free kick in the 51st minute of play.

I'll let the US Soccer official youth twitter account relay the action, since I didn't actually watch the game myself:

O'Neill's goal may be what it takes to push him into the starting lineup when they finally begin the U-20 World Cup on June 21st. Their first game will come against Spain, with games against France and Ghana finishing off the Group Stage.
