The Colorado Rapids will once again do battle with arch-rivals Real Salt Lake. This time, Dick's Sporting Goods Park is the venue as both clubs played to a 1-1 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium in suburban Salt lake City, Utah on March 16th. The match will be broadcast for a national TV audience on NBC Sports at 5:30 MST.
Colorado (0-3-2) are still looking for their first win of the season after a head-shaking draw against the Portland Timbers at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on the weekend. The Rapids found themselves up 2-0 over the pacific northwest club courtesy of a stunning strike from Dillon Powers and a penalty converted by Hendry Thomas. However, the Timbers came roaring back and Will Johnson scored two goals, including a controversial penalty awarded by the referee.
Real Salt Lake (2-2-1) are coming off a home win against the Seattle Sounders. RSL won 2-1 after Robbie Findley and Luis Gil found the scoresheet for the Claret and Cobalt. Head coach Jason Kreis was happy that Costa Rica international Alvaro Saborio didn't have to score in order for the club to be victorious.
The second installment of the Rocky Mountain Cup comes at a testing time for the Colorado Rapids as the club are not only still without a win, but have a mounting injury crisis to deal with. Kevin Harbottle will be out 4-6 weeks after an injury sustained before the Portland home match. Drew Moor will also miss the match after the league suspended the Colorado defender for two games following his straight red card in Los Angeles a fortnight ago.
