It's not going to come as much of a surprise to anybody who has been paying attention, but both Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers have been named as finalists in the Rookie of the Year award race by MLS. The third player nominated for the award, also to the surprise of nobody, was DeAndre Yedlin of the Seattle Sounders. Let's hope it goes the same way that the SB Nation poll went with those three at the top.
Brown and Powers are the only two Rapids players to earn a nomination for an end of the season award. There weren't many options otherwise. There were a few shouts for Chris Klute to get a look for Defender of the Year, but his somewhat silent second half to the season probably kept him out of that discussion. Oscar Pareja's bid for coach of the year was the other award that Rapids fans were calling for, but Mike Petke's New York Red Bulls team winning the Supporters' Shield knocked Pareja out of contention against the two coaches currently in the Western Conference Final.
We'll see if either of the Rapids players take home the silverware on November 25th. (Even if they don't win, we can still laugh at the awards a bit. Baldomero Toledo is up for Referee of the Year. No, really!)
