Yep, this post was inevitable. The fact that I was able to slip it in as my Signing Spree post just makes it that bit more exciting (read: easy) for me. (That, and if I did a Freddy Adu one of these I'd probably get slapped. Not that I would, but it'd be funny!)
Down to the nitty-gritty. The Seattle Sounders are looking to off-load Eddie Johnson according to a smattering of reports across the intertubes. He has been reportedly unsettled since the Clint Dempsey signing took place, and he's looking to be a focal point on whatever team he ends up going to.
Well lookie there, the Rapids could probably use a new center forward in the ranks with Deshorn Brown and Gabriel Torres both being wing-strikers at heart and Edson Buddle coming off of a season that didn't inspire confidence in his future. Colorado has some cap room, and might not need to sell high to get Johnson out of Seattle's hands. He's scored 23 goals in 48 appearances since coming back to the Sounders, Colorado has shown interest in his services before, and he would add some US Men's National Team flair to the Rapids, as well.
It would also be funny to hear him try and talk up Rapids fans after telling us collectively to 'shut the fuck up' a while back, eh?
Here's a potential trade scenario: Oscar Pareja has shown a tendency to like playing Shane O'Neill at right back, and with Diego Calderon at CB again there will be a chance that Marvell Wynne is the odd man out. Perhaps the Rapids could trade Wynne and allocation money for Johnson? Just a thought.
