On Wednesday, September 19th, the U.S. Women's national team will face Australia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. Kickoff is expected to be at 8:00 MST and the match will be broadcast on ESPN2 and available on WatchESPN.
The U.S. Women's national team will face a familiar foe in Australia in the Denver area on Wednesday evening. Household names like Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, and Abby Wambach will play in the home stadium of the Colorado Rapids of MLS. However, the match will also be seen as the parting song for longtime USA coach, Pia Sundhage.
Sundhage coached the United States to victory this past summer at the 2012 London Olympics and was on the touchline for USA's loss to Japan in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Final. On September 1st, Sundhage announced that she would be stepping down from her head coaching position with the United States and take over coaching for the Sweden Women's national team. Sundhage is a native of Ulricehamn, Sweden.
The US Women's team gave their departing coach a gift on September 16th as the US ladies won 2-1 over Australia at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. A capacity crowd is expected at Dick's Sporting Goods park as fans get to see their heroes from the US Women's national team and of course, a legendary coach who will continue to coach in her native country of Sweden.
