Colorado Rapids vs Real Salt Lake - Game Preview

Real Salt Lake shot stopper Nick Rimando has had another solid campaign for the Claret and Cobalt.

On Saturday, August 4th, the Colorado Rapids will play host to Real Salt Lake for the third and final meeting for the Rocky Mountain rivals this season. The match will be the first at Dick's Sporting Goods Park between the clubs on the campaign. Kickoff is set for 7:00 MST and the game will be broadcast on Altitude.

Colorado (7-14-1) are currently well out of the playoff race after 22 matches. The Rapids are also questioning the fact that they have lost four of their last five home matches, after only losing 6 home matches total between 2009 and 2011. The recent home skid is disturbing since the team has a fantastic advantage at playing at a mile above sea level and the team has had a tough time finishing teams off even after scoring first.

Real Salt Lake (13-7-3) currently find themselves toward the top of the Western Conference but possibly a little fatigued after a mid-week CONCACAF Champions League match. RSL lost in Costa Rica to Herediano at Estadio Nacional in San Jose on Tuesday night. The Utah club fell victim to a 1-0 loss in Central America on their opening fixture of the region's top club competition.

While the Rapids are quite far from the playoff picture, a home win against a regional rival could spark the club to a late season surge and a potential playoff push. However, within the foreseeable future, a win over Real Salt Lake would boost morale between the players, coaching staff, and the fans.
