On Friday, August 31st, the Colorado Rapids will travel to Portland Oregon to face the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field. Kickoff is expected to be at 8:30pm MST and the match will be broadcast on NBC Sports.
Colorado (8-16-2) are coming off one of their worst performances of the season with a 4-1 away loss to the San Jose Earthquakes. The league leaders jumped to an early 2-0 lead. Tyrone Marshall found the back of the net courtesy of a Martin Rivero corner kick, but it turned out to be merely a consolation goal as San Jose sent the home crowd home happy with a four-goal performance.
Portland (6-13-6) are just two points behind the Rapids at the bottom of the Western Conference. The Timbers named Caleb Porter as the club's new head coach for the 2013 campaign. He will be formally introduced as the club's second head coach during a press conference in December. Meanwhile, Porter will assume his coaching duties with the University of Akron. At just 37 years old, Porter has become one of the most successful NCAA coaches in history
The Rapids will take a struggling offense to Portland and will also face off against former teammate Kosuke Kimura. The Japanese native was sent to the Timbers earlier this season in a trade. Colorado will have a quick turnaround as they will face Portland again at home on Wednesday, September 5th, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
