Seattle Sounders FC have a new Designated Player in German midfielder Christian Tiffert.

On Saturday, July 28th, the Colorado Rapids will play the Seattle Sounders FC at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 MST.

Colorado (7-13-1) are in the midst of one of their worst runs in a decade. The Rapids have lost 5 in a row and have lost 6 of their last seven overall. June 30th was the last time the Rapids tasted victory in league play, a 3-0 home win over the Portland Timbers. Colorado did receive a much needed boost in the form of a 2-1 win over Swansea City of the English Premier League on Tuesday evening in a friendly match.

Seattle (8-5-7) are currently 4th in the Western Conference. The Emerald City club recently signed a new Designated Player in Christian Tiffert, a German midfielder who spent the last two seasons with FC Kaiserslautern of the German Bundesliga. The Sounders shipped winger Álvaro Fernández to Chicago Fire to free up a DP slot on the roster following a fall-out in a deal that was supposed to send him elsewhere earlier. Tiffert has the ability to be an attacking midfielder and can also play either wing. He brings versatility to a Seattle side that has struggled over the course of the past two months.

The Rapids have two consecutive home games to prove that they can survive a tough Western Conference playoff race. Seattle's visit is followed by arch rival Real Salt Lake on August 4th. Colorado are just three points off the bottom of the Western table. However, the top five clubs in the conference qualify for the postseason. This will be the third time this season that Seattle and Colorado have faced each other, and the final time under the new unbalanced schedule.
