As disappointing as last night's loss against Real Salt Lake was, it was still heartening to see how many Colorado Rapids fans came out for the game. We came by car, bus, and plane to band together and help support the team. While home games generally have a bunch of tailgates large and small, at away games - when there are enough people to support a tailgate - there's a single one for all of the Rapids fans. It's a great opportunity to mingle with people whom you might never have a chance to talk to otherwise.
If you've never been before, an away game is a great experience that's totally worth the drive or flight. Ever been frustrated by lackluster crowd participation from other fans at home games? Then you especially need to check out an away game sometime. The die hard fans are the ones that generally come out for the away games, so it's pretty much guaranteed you will be surrounded by folks who are very vocal in their support for the Rapids. It's important too that when the team is playing at away stadium, that they have a piece of their hometown with them in the form of their fanbase.
This was the last away game against our rivals, Real Salt Lake. However, we've got a game coming up against the Portland Timbers on August 31st that Rapids fans are encouraged to attend. So, if you've never made it to an away game before, it's a great opportunity to make that your first one!
Do you attend away games?
