On Saturday, July 21st, the Colorado Rapids will travel to Rio Tinto Stadium to face regional rival Real Salt Lake. The match will be broadcast on Altitude at 8:00 MST.
Colorado (7-12-1) will travel to Utah with heavy hearts as the club's front office recently lost Marissa Colaiano, a Senior Manager of Community Relations, to complications from Multiple Sclerosis on Tuesday. Her funeral was on Friday. The team also had to deal with the reality of a deadly shooting massacre that occurred at a movie theater in neighboring Aurora that resulted in the deaths of 12 people. An additional 50 were reportedly wounded. The movie theater is a mere 10 miles from Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Despite having to deal with local tragedies within the Denver area, the Rocky Mountain club is currently on a four-game losing streak. The Rapids have also lost six of their past seven matches and have fallen out of playoff contention in the Western Conference. Jeff Larentowicz will also miss the match through suspension as the defensive midfielder received a late booking in the 2-1 midweek loss to Toronto FC.
Real Salt Lake (11-7-3) will be without the services of captain Kyle Beckerman, as the United States International received a straight red card after a melee on the weekend in a 5-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes. Colorado Rapids supporters making the trip out to Salt Lake City are planning a tifo tribute to honor the victims of the Aurora shooting attack.
