With only four days remaining until first kick, Burgundy Wave is going to do a countdown of the ten most important things to watch on the Colorado Rapids in 2012 if they want to get themselves a run at their second MLS Cup. .

Let's face it, Rapids fans. When's the last time that we had a new player that got nearly as much hype as our 22 year old Argentinian off season pick up Martin Rivero? Sure, there have been some fabulous players in the history of the team: Marcelo Balboa, Conor Casey, Pablo Mastroeni, the list goes on. Who have we seen get hyped by the Rapids front offices quite like Rivero though? Nobody that I can remember.

Heck, they held a contest on twitter to see if we could figure out who their 'True #10 Argentinian playmaker' was, and then delayed it a few days just to keep the suspense up.

We haven't yet seen Rivero play, though it's assumed that he'll be doing his playmaking from the striker position at the top of the new 4-3-3 formation, probably on one of the wings with someone like Omar Cummings - or Conor Casey when he gets healthy - playing in the center to try and put the balls away. He's supposed to be the big missing piece in an offense that had absolutely terrible service and finishing in 2011, and at only 22 years old with all of his experience with Rosario Central, it's going to be interesting to see if he can meet that potential.
