The Colorado Rapids took third place in the Hawaii Islands Soccer Invitational on Saturday evening thanks to some magic by rookie Tony Cascio. Against a team of mostly youth coming from the Melbourne Heart - they had the awkward situation of having two games scheduled in one day thanks to the A-League's scheduling - the Rapids played their usual 4-3-3 and played it well.
Cascio scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute, blasting a rocket toward the goal after recieving the ball from fellow newcomer Jaime Castrillon. The weakened and youth filled Heart couldn't put much together offensively against the strong Rapids defense and Cascio continued to terrorize Heart, though he couldn't put another in the net. The one goal turned out to be more than enough and the team earned a win and third place in the Invitational.
With that, the days start to count down until March 10th when the Rapids begin the MLS regular season against the Columbus Crew. Colorado will land back in Denver from Hawaii and start training again later in this week.
