The month of March has been kind to the Colorado Rapids in terms of the schedule, at least in terms of potential story-lines to be had. The first three games of next season have been announced by MLS for the Rapids, two on the road and one at home:
March 2: @ FC Dallas
March 9: vs. Philadelphia Union
March 16: @ Real Salt Lake
It will be the first time since 2010 that the team opens on the road after a two-year streak of having their home opener be their first game of the season. A game against Dallas will, of course, be a hard fought one and an intriguing look at the new team, but its the next two games that will be the more interesting to watch. They have won five of their last six season-openers, the only dropped result during that stretch coming against Chivas in 2009.
Philly at home for the first game of the season may put Conor Casey's homecoming to DSGP right into the home opener, assuming he signs after being picked in the Re-Entry Draft. And of course, we will have a chance to win the Rocky Mountain Cup back at home after the first of the three matches between the Rapids and RSL takes place at Rio Tinto Stadium in our third and RSL's first game of the year.
The rest of the schedule should be announced some time in early January, if MLS is to be believed. (They aren't.)
