The Rapids might be without their suddenly two most explosive players this Saturday when they head to Buck Shaw Stadium to take on the San Jose Earthquakes thanks to a couple of ill-timed - for the Rapids, anyway - national team call-ups for Sanna Nyassi and Omar Cummings.
Cummings' Reggae Boyz in Jamaica are heading to China for a mid-week friendly and Nyassi's Gambia are playing the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa, so both players would have to be pulled out of the country and all the way around the world in order to play their games. Cummings is currently having a bit of visa trouble that has pushed his flight to China back to tomorrow, so that might be something to keep an eye on. Cummings missing the Jamaica game would be a quick answer for an otherwise muddled Rapids striker base.
Hopefully the two will both get the chance to play in their national team matches and still have enough juice - and a lack of jet-lag - to keep themselves in shape for the San Jose game. With the Rapids currently on a run of form they're going to need as much firepower as they can to keep it going against a feisty San Jose team that will be searching for any points they can get as the season begins to go into its dying months.
Cummings and Nyassi have combined for five goals and five assists together in the last four games since they first started up top together against the New York Red Bulls. In their place it's likely that we would see a starting group of strikers picking from the group of Caleb Folan, Andre Akpan, Quincy Amarikwa or even Macoumba Kandji who was held out against Columbus.
