As exciting as it was when Colorado Rapids defender Drew Moor set the MLS record for most league matches with a full 90 minutes played in a row, it's rather sad to see the streak end so abruptly so soon after. Against Chivas USA, Moor played his 67th straight league match for a full 90 minutes, and played another 90 yesterday against the Chicago Fire in order to bring the total up to 68.
Unfortunately, accrued yellow cards early in the season have had Drew on the edge of being suspended an automatic game for picking up another one for a while now, and the ball finally dropped against Chicago in the 55th minute as Drew Moor was handed a card to seal the end of his ironman streak. He will miss the vitally important game against the Los Angeles Galaxy on September 9th.
Personally I think the very fact that it took a suspension rather than an injury to stop this streak from continuing rather than some sort of injury is proof enough to the world; Drew Moor remains the best iron man in Major League Soccer. Congratulations on the streak Moor, and here's to you starting it anew against Toronto FC in mid-September.
