There's really not a whole lot to say about this one. The Colorado Rapids are coming into this match in need of another three points so they can keep their torrid run in late July and August going strong and push themselves back into the higher echelons of the playoff picture - and stay a step ahead of Real Salt Lake while they're at it, who are playing Toronto FC today - while the Earthquakes need the three points in order to push themselves into the playoff picture in the first place.
Sanna Nyassi and Omar Cummings are both still question marks for this match after mid-week friendlies for their national sides though Cummings at least is in San Jose and ready to play. If either of them are absent look for Caleb Folan to sit up top alongside Andre Akpan or perhaps Mac Kandji.
Macoumba Kandji may make his first appearance in Rapids colors in a long time as he finally seems to be rehabbed completely from that ACL tear he suffered during the MLS Cup final last season. He didn't technically score any goals last season - although that own goal was pretty much his doing - but was a presence on the field as long as he was on the Rapids, notching a couple of assists including one on Quincy Amarikwa's only goal of the season.
Also, Chris Wondolowski is apparently still pretty good at scoring goals in MLS and former Rapids transfer target Steven Lenhart has figured out how to bang them in as well lately so the San Jose offense might be worth looking out for. Either way, the Rapids have looked better on the road than they have at home somehow this season and are overall a better team than San Jose so it's not a complete stretch to say that this should be a Rapids victory.
