First of all, apologies for the miniscule game preview, it's been a long week.
Colorado and the New York Red Bulls have both had fantastic runs of form this season but are meeting each other on some slumps right now. Both teams have no wins in their last three games, although the Rapids got three draws while the Red Bulls have that horrible loss against Chivas USA. Either way, looking at these two squads will quickly show that New York has the advantage in this game.
It's not just the fact that New York has a more talented squad overall - guys like Thierry Henry, Dwayne De Rosario, Tim Ream and Juan Agudelo are hard to beat in this league - but the fact that the Rapids are on their shortest rest in the year of only two days and injury problems have decided to continue to slaughter the Rapids chances. Jamie Smith left at halftime last game against Toronto with a leg injury and will miss this game, meaning this will be the first game he misses this season. Only Jeff Larentowicz, Kosuke Kimura, Drew Moor and Matt Pickens will remain in the 'played every game this season' club after Smith misses out.
Injury-wise, Omar Cummings and Caleb Folan will miss, leaving Andre Akpan, Quincy Amarikwa and Conor Casey as the only choices up top. New York has some injury and Gold Cup losses of their own, but there's not much of a chance that the weakened Colorado line-up will do much against New York.
This game is probably going to be painful. At least we can look forward to Sporting on Saturday, ugh.
UZ'S PREDICTION: 2-1 Red Bulls
