A player ranking service from Optasports called the monthly Castrol Index is being released monthly for MLS players, ranking their services in MLS by whatever Optasports' system happens to be. In the inaugural one released today, there were some surprises - Landon Donovan at 104, despite not playing most of the month, is the biggest surprise to me - and some expected bits like Thierry Henry getting first place overall.
Five Colorado Rapids made the top 100 of the list, and four are defensively oriented, not surprising for a team that has had injuries all over its offense causing almost everyone to miss several games here and there but also a team that is averaging only a single goal against at the moment per game. Drew Moor came in 36th, Marvell Wynne 51st, Jeff Larentowicz 59th, Omar Cummings 80th, and Kosuke Kimura 83rd on the list.
The lowest ranked Rapid was Andre Akpan, who at the point of April's end had only played five uneventful minutes of first team football and therefore had a 3.63 score overall, tied with the inactive Ross LaBeaux.
