In news that should make the entirety of Rapids nation shout 'Huzzah!', ColoradoRapids.com has pretty much confirmed that Conor Casey will get the start on Saturday at striker against DC United at RFK Stadium. Barring a mishap similar to the one that sidelined Pablo Mastroeni less than an hour before the FC Dallas match began, it's pretty certain that Casey will be able to play his first game since the last time that these two teams met back in April.
Every striker that has been paired with Conor has looked great this year so far, with Caleb Folan having his best game by far as a Rapid against DC United earlier in the season, scoring two goals while paired up top with Casey until a hamstring injury sidelined #9 until recently when he began to train again. Omar Cummings also looked far better with Casey as his mate up top than he has with Quincy Amarikwa, Caleb Folan or even Andre Akpan. The Rapids scored a total of seven goals in the two games that Casey has appeared in so far, and only four in the other six games that he hasn't appeared in.
Colorado has only won a single game at RFK stadium since 1999, with that win coming last year thanks to a Mehdi Ballouchy goal. With a similar streak in Colorado reaching back to 2000 broken last year but continuing on its normal path this year, the chances of a win against DC in DC look fairly small. With Casey back it's much more likely that we can look forward at the very least to a hard-fought draw with a couple of goals.
