The Colorado Rapids are still in the position of controlling their own destiny with six more possible points to add to their current 45 when it comes to getting a playoff spot and picking their playoff position after, but that hasn't stopped those of us here in Colorado from looking at the teams below the Rapids. Any team that has had the potential to catch Colorado in the positioning battle losing is a good thing, and the Rapids received some very good news last night.

With the Chicago Fire falling to FC Dallas and DC United losing to the spoiling Vancouver Whitecaps, the Rapids already bright playoff hopes got a boost. These weren't teams that were currently in the Wild Card slots, but were still teams that were looking to act as spoilers and sneak in from behind at the death if a team like the Rapids were to lose a few games to finish the year out.

The only downside to the games last night was that Dallas got a huge three points and basically eliminated any chance that the Rapids would jump over them in playoff positioning, but it's a small price to pay for getting a playoff spot almost assured and even less pressure put on the team's backs ahead of the game against Salt Lake on Friday, a game that will likely be the Rapids own clincher for a playoff spot.
