The Rapids today announced that they have re-signed two more of the players from their championship season last season, rookie striker Andre Akpan and starting left/right midfielder Jamie Smith.

Akpan only made a single appearance last season for about thirteen minutes, with a loan to the Tampa Bay Rowdies keeping him off the squad for a long time along with two other guys - Quincy Amarikwa and eventually Macoumba Kandji - were ahead of him on the striker depth chart. Out of all the guys that Colorado has past the Omar Cummings/Conor Casey tandem, Akpan probably has the most upside and biggest shot at being the future of the striker position.

Jamie Smith led the team in assists last season, replacing Colin Clark as the #1 guy in the midfield after another ACL injury to Clark. His service is the best out of everyone on the Rapids, although he does tend to run hot and cold as far as games go.

Naturally, we don't know anything about either of the contracts because MLS and the club don't allow that information out. It's good that the possible future of the striker position and our starting left midfielder and leader in assists will remain with the club for now.
