DC United comes into Commerce City, Colorado today as the worst team in the league, and quite possibly one of the worst teams in league history. Their 18 losses are tops in the league and they have a legitimate shot at getting some very bad MLS records, with a very good shot at losing 20. Combine their failures this year with the fact that they haven't won a game in Denver/Commerce City since way back in 2000, and it bodes well for the incredibly hot home side of Colorado.
Colorado's playoff chances increased almost to "it's inevitable they get in" proportions with a hard earned point in Salt Lake City and three more in a convincing 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday. Three more points against United and Colorado will have 44, four more than they accomplished all last season and enough to almost completely clinch themselves a playoff spot. They're eight points into the playoffs currently as it stands and will most likely only miss them if they manage to lose out the rest of their season. With their remaining games against tough squads FC Dallas, LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, the points today could well be the last easy points available this season.
Conor Casey can come back to play up top with the MLS player of the month, Omar Cummings. He was the victim of a one game yellow card suspension after getting an early yellow against Real Salt Lake. The strike tandem of Casey-Cummings won't help DC United's weak back line out, and the two will look to improve upon their combined 23 goals against the worst team in the league.
Colorado has won their last five home games by a combined score of 14-1.
