Justin Edmonds
He only got three appearances, but we liked what we saw from Stew Ceus this season.
Through the month of December, Burgundy Wave will do a short review of every player who received even a paltry sum of minutes in 2012. We start with the goalkeepers and then move our way up to the forwards. Today, we'll cover Steward Ceus.
Name: Steward Ceus
Number: 31
Appearances: 3
Stats: Two clean sheets in two starts, 4 saves
OK, so it's really not all that impressive to win two games with two clean sheets against Houston's backups and one of the worst offenses in the history of Major League Soccer. Still, most keepers behind a defense as bad as Colorado's don't get clean sheets at all, so we were impressed by what we saw from Stew Ceus this season. (His performances in the Open Cup, against Swansea City and in reserve games were also pretty solid.)
He still has some work to do if he's going to be our long-term answer in the future. His positioning is still a bit wonky, most notably. It's all fixable though, and Matt Pickens doesn't look to be giving up that starting job any time soon. After another two years or so of Pickens leading the team, perhaps we'll see some more Ceus in the future? Now that Ian Joyce is out of the picture, he is clearly the No. 2 guy for the future, no questions asked. (Now that I said that, the Rapids will draft a goalie sixth overall in the draft.)
If Pickens gets a longer term injury at some point (heaven forbid...) then we'll get to see a much better picture of how the kid's future will pan out. Until then, we're just going to be giddy at the incredibly small sample size

No regrets for the job he did!
