A combination of rain and sunshine greeted an enthusiastic crowd at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, as the United States Women's National Team recorded a routine 2-0 win over the People's Republic of China in an international friendly.
The first half saw the USA women dominate large portions of the match as China goalkeeper Zhang Yue was forced to make several saves. Heather O'Reilly and Sydney Leroux constantly kept Yue alert while USA goalkeeper Hope Solo was rarely called to action. Lauren Holiday scored late in the first half in a goal that was well deserved as the United States took the lead going into the break.
Meanwhile, Abby Wambach and Megan Rapinoe were introduced in the second half to the delight of the crowd. Rapinoe doubled the scoreline after she scored on a set piece. The world cup veteran put in a curling free kick from the left that found the far corner of the goal.
Alex Morgan did not participate in the match. Hope Solo was substituted at halftime and was replaced by Jill Loyden, who kept the shutout and was only forced to make one save. China was outshot 23-1 throughout the course of the game. The US women improved to 31-8-12 against China.
