Reading all of these MLS preview articles got me thinking. Do people even pay attention and watch Rapids games on most of the soccer news sites on the web?
Almost everything I read said that a lack of coach was troubling and most failed to notice the cohesion and consistency the Rapids have had this off season. I know it is easy to point at that and make it the biggest problem with the Rapids this season, but having a new coach and implementing a new system would be just as bad if not worse (remember when Pareja first came in). It just appears to me that people didn't do their research and chose the easiest thing to write about (though from my experience this seems to always be the case with the Rapids).
Personally I think we were doing even better with possession this preseason (and yes I know it is preseason and that it rarely means anything, but still it was exciting to watch and think what was possible this year). I also think the FO is handling things right in this situation. If they were to have freaked out and hire the first coach out there, who knows where we would be. By maintaining a common mentality though the Club the team has shown a consistency rarely seen with coaching changes. People like blaming the FO for everything (now that Pareja is gone), but the FO were the ones that finally got KSE to pay for a DP, were patient enough to finally sign Eloundou (boy does he look good), scouted good this off season even with a short notice coaching change (Jose Mari being a good signing in my eyes), and has kept things stable in a period where a club should really be questioning where it is going.
Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I personally think everybody (minus some of us fans) has been underrating the Rapids this year. I hope that all of those saying the Rapids will fail are proven wrong. The Pids have done it before, 2010 and 2013 come to mind, lets hope that 2014 is the same.
