The Colorado Rapids will look to stay unbeaten in the month of September as the team travels to Oregon to face the Portland Timbers for the final time in the regular season. The Rapids will look to avenge a 3-0 defeat on June 23rd and also stay in the hunt for the playoffs.
Colorado (12-8-9) currently find themselves in 3rd place in the Western Conference standings. The Rocky Mountain Club came from behind in the second half to record a 2-1 win over FC Dallas on the weekend. A rain-soaked Dick's Sporting Goods Park couldn't stop Vicente Sanchez from terrorizing FC Dallas defenders as the Uruguayan scored and set up the game-winning goal that turned out to be an own goal.
Portland (10-5-13) have continued to impress under first year head coach Caleb Porter. The club is coming off a disappointing 1-1 draw against bottom-feeders Chivas USA. Diego Valeri made an immediate impact after coming on as a substitute to salvage a point for the pacific northwest club. The Timbers are currently in 5th place and only trail Colorado by a mere two points in the standings.
While Panama striker Gabriel Torres has stolen the headlines for being the Rapids first DP signing, the acquisition of Vicente Sanchez has proven invaluable for the Rapids attack over the past month. Sanchez has a wealth of experience including winning titles in Mexico for Toluca and playing for FC Schalke in the German Bundesliga.
