The Colorado Rapids will play their first game at Houston's new BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday. It will also be the only match between the two former Western rivals in 2013, as the Dynamo have been in the Eastern Conference since 2011, when the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps joined Major League Soccer.
Colorado (2-4-2) found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat to the Seattle Sounders FC at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on the weekend. Obafemi Martins found the scoresheet in the first half and his strike proved to be the difference as the Emerald City club finally won their first league game of the season.
Houston (4-2-1) are currently 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. The Texan club needed stoppage time to find a result in Canada as the Dynamo tied Toronto FC 1-1 at BMO Field. Houston have also set an MLS record for the longest home undefeated streak in all competitions at 35 consecutive matches without a loss.
The Rapids received a boost when the club released a statement on Friday that Pablo Mastroeni and Martin Rivero will both travel to Houston. The players have taken part in full training sessions this past week. Colorado are currently unbeaten against Houston for 6 consecutive matches. The Dynamo have not defeated the Rapids since early 2009.
