Jamie Smith will not win Goal of the Week, but it's an honor just to be nominated! (Right?)
Let's get this straight, right up front and from the get go -- this week's Goal of the Week competition in MLS is going to be won by Vancouver's Daigo Kobayashi. The goal he scored this week was absolutely out of this world, and is probably going to be in the running for Goal of the Year by the time the season is over.
OK, with that said, Jamie Smith's goal against the Philadelphia Union was nominated for Goal of the Week! If you didn't see the goal, it was a good pass by DeShorn Brown that left Jamie wide open on the edge of the 18-yard-box, where he curled a lovely ball out of the way of Zac MacMath in a vintage class finish.
It's a damn shame that he's not going to have a chance in hell of winning the competition with Kobayashi also on the ballot. Welp, next time.
