On March 9th, the Colorado Rapids will have their season opener against the Philadelphia Union at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.
The Colorado Rapids will play their much-anticipated home opener for the 2013 MLS season on March
9th 10th against the Philadelphia Union. Snow is expected to fall on Saturday during the match, which will kickoff at 4:00 1:00 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match will be broadcast on Altitude.
Colorado (0-1-0) lost their first match of the season on the weekend to FC Dallas by a slim 1-0 margin. The Rapids dominated the match at times, including winning the possession battle. However, the only statistic that really matters are goals scored and despite moments of brilliance from DeShorn Brown, Kevin Harbottle and Tony Cascio, the Rapids were unable to score at FC Dallas Stadium.
Philadelphia (0-1-0) were on the wrong end of a 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City on the weekend. The Union were able to score first courtesy of a Sebastian Le Toux goal, but surrendered three unanswered goals to Sporting en route to losing their home opener at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Conor Casey is expected to make his return to Denver where he played from 2007-2012. Casey is the all-time leading scorer for the Rapids and was instrumental in the club's MLS Cup Championship in 2010. Also noteworthy, Sebastian Le Toux returned to Philadelphia in the off-season after stints in Vancouver and New York in 2012. Colorado will look to return to winning ways within the friendly confines of Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday in the midst of a large snowstorm.
