Colorado Rapids To Sign Kory Kindle

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Kory Kindle is expected to sign a contract with the Rapids soon, per Chris Bianchi.

Kory Kindle was projected as a first round SuperDraft pick by some, but fell to the second round after teams eschewed picking any fullbacks until the Colorado Rapids scooped him up. Though he was technically without a contract for the preseason after being selected, I don't think anyone was actually expecting him to escape without being signed in the end.

According to Chris Bianchi, the contract we have all been expecting for the kid will be coming very soon, as the Rapids are expected to ink him any day now:

Kindle didn't exactly set the place alight during the preseason games he appeared in -- and why would you expect that from a second round draft pick? -- but he showed that he had some solid, if raw, defensive potential and some great service as a wing back on his assist to DeShorn Brown against the Portland Timbers.

Expect to see him battling for the starting spot on opening day with Anthony Wallace possibly still hurt. If I had to tip the scales in any direction, I would say that Chris Klute probably has the inside track on the starting job -- if Oscar Pareja is feeling spicy, Diego Calderon could also be an option with Marvell Wynne returning to the center and Brian Mullan slotting in at right back -- since he's been with the team a bit longer and has just that tiny bit more starting MLS experience.
