Earlier in this off-season, we were given a bit of a sweat when rumors began to bubble up linking Oscar Pareja to the open job down in FC Dallas. He was also a name whispered for a few other jobs before the Rapids shut them down and declined interviews. After the wind died down, Pareja was still coach of the Colorado Rapids. But what of his assistant coach, Wilmer Cabrera?
MLSSoccer.com (I think we can trust their sources, guys) has linked Cabrera with the open job out West with Chivas USA. This wouldn't be the first time for Chivas sniping an assistant from the Rockies, as their head coach from 2011-2012 was former Real Salt Lake assistant Robin Frasier.
If the Colombian does leave for Chivas, it would be the first head coaching job of his career with a professional team. He does have a bit of managerial experience, having taken the reins with the US U-17 and U-18 teams.
According to the article posted by MLS, the Rapids have offered Cabrera a contract extension.
