Colorado Rapids 3, Vancouver Whitecaps 2 - Gaby Gaby Hey

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Spor

Colorado beat Vancouver 3-2 on the back of a brace from Gabriel Torres.

Colorado's playoff hopes were all but assured on Saturday afternoon after an exciting 3-2 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. The sellout crowd at Dicks Sporting Goods Park witnessed an extremely exciting affair that featured 2 penalties and 2 goals from Gabriel Torres.

Penalties aside, the crowd was treated to 3 potential Goal of the Week nominees, with Kekuta Manneh's 32nd minute goal being the first of the game. Torres earned his second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 41st minute. It was a deserved penalty and a deserved goal as the Rapids had mostly controlled the play through the run of the half.

The second half featured more back and forth action. The Rapids broke the deadlock first with Deshorn Brown producing one of his best finishes of the season in the 51st minute. Another deserved penalty, for the visitors this time, deadlocked the game once again in the 75th minute. The Rapids still had one more trick up their sleeve, courtesy of their new designated player. Torres scored from the top of the 18 with a finish that you'd never hear the end of if he played for Seattle.

Ballgame. And the Rapids are only an LA result away from a playoff chance. Also, your friendly reminder that this happened.

Luckily for the Danish 'keeper, even a blind, concussed sloth would've stopped the next scoring chance for Colorado. Torres, having broken in on a clean two-on-one, had time, space and the goalkeeper at his mercy. One heavy touch later - not even a shot, mind you - Ousted had claimed the ball and Torres looked less like a Gold Cup scoring threat and more like another Designated Player with horrible finishing woes whose name lives on in infamy in Vancouver. (That's right; after one match, I'm already calling Torres the "Colorado Jarju". Prove me wrong, Burgundy Wave.)
