The Rapids have a couple problems with their squad going into the 2013 season, but at the very least we know that the team is set at goalkeeper! On Friday, the Colorado Rapids announced the re-signing of backup keeper Steward Ceus.
Matt Pickens is most definitely the starter for now and hopefully for a while -- he had a wonderful 2012 season and even at his worst, is a pretty good option between the sticks. Ceus made three appearances for the Rapids in 2012, one of which came at the end of a terrible 4-1 loss to the hot, hot, red-hot San Jose Earthquakes, so we can't really hold that one against him.
In his other two appearances, Ceus pitched two shutouts against Chivas USA and the Houston Dynamo. Now, those aren't the most impressive teams to pitch a shutout against, but there were certainly no complaints coming out of here. He's still got a few kinks to work out, but the growth he has shown since joining the team as a third-round draft pick has been fantastic, and I look forward to him being the starter eventually. It's good to see him stay on the squad.
As per usual in MLS, the terms of the contract were not released. (Someday!)
