Diego Calderon Signing Made Official

The Colorado Rapids finally confirmed the signing of Diego Calderon.

We've already known it was finished for a while now, but the Colorado Rapids and Major League Soccer finally made the signing of Ecuadorian defender Diego Calderon official on Thursday.

To quote myself from the first time we caught the rumor that he was going to be signed:

A center back, Calderon has played well over 200 appearances for Ecuadorian club Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito and has earned five caps for the Ecuador national team during his long spell in his native country.

This will be a big coup for the Rapids defense, the weakest unit on the team by far at the moment. At either left back or center back, he will provide some much needed defensive mettle -- if he plays at center back, it might also have the helpful use of putting Marvell Wynne at right back.
