On Tuesday, July 24th, the Colorado Rapids will play a friendly against Swansea City. The match will be at 7:00 MST and will not be broadcast on television.
Swansea City are a team from Swansea, Wales, and are coming off an impressive season in the English Premier League as the Swans finished 11th in the table. The Swans also became the first Welsh side to compete in the Premier League since 1992. Two of the best Swansea players featured with the club on loan last season and they included Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fabio Borini. The two signed permanently to Tottenham and Liverpool from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and AS Roma, respectively.
The Colorado Rapids will likely take this friendly as a scrimmage given that it has just been 3 days since the club lost 2-0 to arch rivals Real Salt Lake in Utah. Also, this coming Saturday is a home fixture against the Seattle Sounders. Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja will likely see this as an opportunity to feature some youngsters and give fringe players more playing time.
Swansea City are currently in their preseason and will also feature many of their players. The Swans have brought many regulars as opposed to just bringing their youth team to the United States. The match should be competetive and a large crowd is expected at Dick's Sporting Goods Park given the fact that many fans have wanted friendlies for the last few years. This is the first friendly against English opposition since the club faced Everton FC in 2008.
