On Wednesday, June 20th, the Colorado Rapids will play the San Jose Earthquakes at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. It will be the first home game for Colorado since the club faced Montreal Impact on May 26th. On the weekend, Colorado failed to take advantage of a Vancouver red card and fell victim to a 1-0 loss in British Columbia to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
San Jose (8-3-3) has impressed during the 2012 campaign and the club have already won as many games (8) as they did in total during the 2011 season. The Earthquakes will also welcome the returns of Victor Bernárdez and Chris Wondolowski following national team duty for Honduras and the United States, respectively.
The Rapids could receive a boost as defender Marvell Wynne and star forward Omar Cummings could both feature against the Earthquakes, though only off the bench. Cummings has been out with a sprained left ankle, while Wynne has struggled from a right hamstring strain. Midfielder Jamie Smith could also make his season debut, after recovering from an ACL injury from last October.
The match will be the Rapids second within four days, and San Jose will be well-rested after a three-week break from league action. Colorado will aim to keep pace in a crowded Western Conference while San Jose are trying to keep pressure on Real Salt Lake at the top of the table.
