On Saturday, October 6th, the Colorado Rapids will welcome the San Jose Earthquakes to Dick's Sporting Goods Park. It will be the final meeting between the two clubs for the 2012 campaign. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 MT; the game will be broadcast on Altitude.
Colorado (9-18-4) are officially eliminated from the playoffs and will look to finish the season on a high, especially given the fact that two of the final three matches are within the friendly confines of Dick's Sporting Goods Park. This is the first time the Rapids have missed the playoffs since 2009.
San Jose (18-6-7) are on track to finish the regular season as the league's best overall team. Sporting Kansas City are within striking distance and a loss to the Rapids would make the final fixtures of the season tense for the Supporters' Shield race. Frank Yallop has done an exceptional job with the Earthquakes this season and the team is a strong contender to win their third MLS title.
A large crowd is expected despite cooler temperatures that have already entered the state from the north. The Rapids are obviously disappointed with how this season has turned out and as Omar Cummings recently stated after a training session, the Rapids will be aiming to finish the season the best that it can. Of note, the Supporter's Terrace in the north end of the stadium will be merged for the ever first time at Dick's Sporting Goods Park
