Short Scouting Report: Los Angeles Galaxy
The Los Angeles Galaxy won the Supporters Shield last season after making the MLS Cup Finals the year previous, just nudging out Real Salt Lake for the award with an incredibly strong season from top to bottom. Edson Buddle came very close to winning the golden boot award, David Beckham rebounded from a couple of mediocre years to look surprisingly like his old self and Landon Donovan was... well, Landon Donovan. This season started off slightly slow for the defending Shield holders this year, with several draws and a 4-1 loss to Salt Lake on the record, but the team has bounced back and are now first in the West for the time being.
The team has looked a lot less potent without their current MVP candidate Donovan in the line-up this season, which spells good news for Colorado as Donovan is currently in the Gold Cup playing for the United States. Even without Landon though, LA has managed a long string of great results recently after that tepid start to the year. Another supporters shield wouldn't be out of the question for these guys if injury stays away and they manage to keep pace better than Salt Lake with Donovan around.

Emphasis on the Old
I’m actually not terrified by the prospect of playing the Galaxy right now. Except for the fear that this is going to be a crap match, here’s why I think so:
1) Without Donovan they’ve been playing a less than delightful game of bunker-ball. Even when they had him they were lacking in offensive spark.
2) At home, the Rapids have been playing a less than delightful game of bunker-ball. Seriously, look at how they’ve played at home versus the spirit and energy the guys have shown on the road. The MUST WIN attitude has to be on display at DSG Park.
Three points at home would bring the Rapids level on points with Dallas and put them ahead on Goal Differential. If we can get a significant lead over the Galaxy, this would be a shocker to the Western Conference, because we’d be leap-frogging Seattle and Dallas and put both Real Salt Lake and San Jose to our backs. Hate to say it, but San Jose is catching us up.
This is possibly one of the most important and pivotal games of the season for the Rapids. A loss or a draw could put us out of the playoff picture for a bit, but a win would put us in contention for the Shield, and that’s a big fucking deal.
This is a Must Win game, no doubt about it.
And let's face it
This is a side that is more than capable of getting a good result against the Galaxy.
The Rapids tore them to pieces so emphatically last season that Schellas Hyndman actually watched our game in order to have Dallas copy the performance.
I’m hoping for a similar display on Saturday, save for giving up the lead early and then having to fight back. I’ve seen enough USMNT this week.
